You MUST Know: The Latest Wig Scams

Posted on February 08 2024

We've stepped into a whole new thing to worry about in the hair industry... first AI Wigs and now morphed images. It's already enough that most wig companies steal photos from black owned businesses and influencers.

What are AI Wigs?

AI wigs are wigs that are ditigitally created from a prompt. In other words, the image of this wig is fake and you do not know what you'll actually be receiving from the company.  And the crazy thing is, they look SUPER realistic!

AI seems to be the new fascination and that's cool. It has some advantages. But making AI wigs and posting them to sell....

Definitely giving scam vibes, right?

Take a look below.

The Problem With AI Wigs

Now, no shade to the creators. [Get your money sis!]

But this is not good for you, the customer.

Yes, full transparency, starting a wig business can be costly. We've spent $10,000 our first year in business. If the hair company you are thinking about buying from is not using real wig photos, RUN. A lot of the big companies are already a hit or miss, now you have a whole nother thing to worry about. The influencers get all the good quality wigs, and then there's you. You spend all your hard earned money on a wig, just for it to tangle and be a knotted mess after a few washes.

If the AI Wig is just used for a flyer, that's fine.

Morphed Images

Companies like Jessie's Wig are taking influencers' photos and morphing their faces so they can deceive unsuspecting people into buying a terrible quality wig.

AlwaysAmeera has spoken about this early 2024, but think about how many other creators have their photo taken and then morphed. Would you trust a company like this?

In The Mindset of A Customer

Let's say you come across a wig company's site and you are bamboozled by these AI wig or morphed photos. It comes in the mail and it's terrible. It looks nothing like the picture advertised... because, well, it wasn't real to begin with. It's even worse if they have a no return policy, or they are unresponsive when attempting to return.

This wig below is AI. If you look closely, you'll see minor imperfections. But it's getting reaaal fake out here in these wig streets. Is being fake the new real??

Can you guess which one is AI?

Acting With Integrity

At Peculiar Perfection, we'll always use real people (or our own mannequins) and real wigs. When we first launched, we tried out the AI models look but it wasn't us, because it wasn't real. We wanted to keep that trust with our customers. Our advice to you, as a person who shops online, ensure you invest your money in businesses who uses real people and real wigs. Or, continue to play russian roulette with your hard earned money.

The Bottom Line Is...

These AI pics are impressive, cute even. But as a consumer... it raises major red flags. Keeping it real will always be better.
